WHEN CLASSICAL MUSIC EMBRACES PLURALITY IN FÉLIX’S SHOES PRESENTED AT THE JOSEPH-ROULEAU HALL

Posted by MM | October 29, 2026

Montréal, October 29, 2026– Pierre Rancourt, this season’s guest artist in the Happy Hour Concert series at Jeunesses Musicales Canada, will present In Félix’s Shoes on November 19, at the Joseph-Rouleau Hall. Accompanied by Chantal Bergeron (violin, mandolin, accordion), Andrew Wells-Oberegger (oud, hulusi, percussion), and double bassist Francis Palma-Pelletier, Pierre Rancourt (vocals, guitar, jaw harp, foot percussion) offers a multicultural experience in the form of a modern musical tale inspired by the work of Félix Leclerc.

In Félix’s Shoes tells the story of a musician hired as an outreach facilitator in high school integration classes. As he connects with a group of students hailing from all over the world—each with their own deeply moving life story—Félix’s music starts to exude a sense of camaraderie, respect, and friendship beyond borders. Reinterpreted through the prism of the immigrants’ personal journeys, Félix’s songs gain a powerful new impetus.

“The idea of inviting Pierre at the Joseph-Rouleau Hall with his concert first came to me when I saw his show last year. I was charmed by the concept, which takes a wonderful documentary-style approach. It aligns perfectly with our vision of classical music in all its forms. Pierre’s concert is in keeping with this line of thought as his performance draws on classic songs from the Quebec repertoire, blending them with world music to do what music does best: bring people together, foster sharing, and broaden our horizons.” — Danièle LeBlanc, Executive and Artistic Director at JMC.

Each season, an artist who has performed with the JMC is invited to perform a concert. This invitation allows the audience to reconnect with the artists and see how they have evolved since their debut on the Joseph-Rouleau Hall stage. Pierre Rancourt sang the title role in Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni during the 2017–2018 season with JMC.

Pre-concert drinks will be served starting at 6 p.m.; the concert will begin at 7 p.m.
