2019-2020 Season Programming of Jeunesses Musicales Canada’s Joseph Rouleau Hall 70 seasons of virtuosity

Montreal, April 10, 2019 – Jeunesses Musicales Canada is launching its 2019-2020 season, which features varied repertoires performed by a passionate group of talented young musicians and opera singers. Young audiences will also have the opportunity to be exposed to music through a series of concerts created especially for them, showcasing several exciting new additions to the programme.

The public is invited to explore music at Joseph Rouleau Hall in JM Canada’s André Bourbeau House in Montréal. "The best emerging talents of the Canadian classical music scene will come together to share with you their passion, their skills and the beauty of the repertoire they have selected for you. We have a vibrant season in store for you, which includes Russian, French, Canadian, Spanish and Polish music," says Danièle LeBlanc, Executive and Artistic Director.

Happy Hour Concerts

Five Thursday evenings in the year, the best up and coming musicians play a sixty to seventy-five minute commented programme with no intermission. The audience can join us as of 6 p.m. to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine selected by RéZin before the concert begins at 7 p.m. On October 3, 2019, music lovers will have the opportunity to hear the meagan&amy duo (Meagan Milatz, piano and Amy Hillis, violin) present the outcome of their research into a musical identity that embraces all of Canada in Junctions: A Canadian Vibe. Continuing on this theme of identity, on November 7, 2019, pianist Teo Gheorghiu will present Body and Soul, an intimate concert including works evoking his personal memories and the landscapes of France and Spain. On December 12, 2019, Resonances, by the STICK&BOW duo (Krystina Marcoux, marimba and Juan Sebastian Delgado, cello), explores the surprising union of marimba and cello through an eclectic repertoire ranging from Bach to Radiohead. On February 6, 2020, soprano Alexandra Smither and pianist Rachael Kerr, musicians and friends, will explore all the facets of love in an uninhibited and fun musical conversation called The Truth About Love. Driven by a desire to relay a social message that goes beyond the notes, brother and sister Carl Matthieu Neher (piano) and Anna-Sophie Neher (soprano) present a selection of luminous works for voice and piano in Peace, on March 26, 2020. All this takes place in an intimate setting, with impeccable acoustics and a personal approach allowing for a very special contact with the artists and the music.

Cushion Concerts

Children as young as three and their families can now discover the joys of music through a series of guided and theatrical concerts designed especially for them. Presented on Sundays at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Seven different concerts will entertain children while introducing them to opera with, among others, Opera Candy: The Gourmet Adventure of Hansel and Gretel, a comical adaptation of Engelbert Humperdinck's opera, presented on October 27, 2019. It should be noted that this concert was a finalist for the 22nd Opus Awards for Production of the Year – Young Audiences. Jazz-Noisette, a new release on November 17, 2019, takes the traditional tale of The Nutcracker for a spin in a hilarious fusion of Tchaikovsky's classic version and the great Duke Ellington’s jazzy take. On December 8, 2019, three friendly penguins will arrive in town for Le grand bal de Noël, a timeless concert where the magic of the holiday season is pitch-perfect. Recorders on the Run will amaze everyone, young and old, with the athletic performances of the Flûte Alors! recorder quartet and the impressive range of their often underestimated instruments, on February 16, 2020. On March 15, 2020, another new feature, The Ones Who Dream…, will invite you into the universe of an Indigenous child who discovers First Nations music and knowledge through the ancestral art of dreaming. On April 19, 2020, Zoom-boom-boom, a third new feature, will initiate children from 2 to 6 years old to electroacoustic music through the imagination of a child for whom even the most common sounds can become a symphony. A finalist for the 22nd Opus Awards for Production of the Year – Young Audiences, Le chant de l’alouette, presented for the very last time on May 10, 2020, promises a rediscovery of New France's musical heritage.
