Montreal, Wednesday, November 12, 2025 — Jeunesses Musicales Canada (JMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of soprano Elisabeth St-Gelais, to its Board of Directors.
“We are delighted to welcome this accomplished Quebecoise-Innu artist to our Board,” said Luc Perreault, Chair of the Board. “We believe that Elisabeth will be a great addition to help represent our commitment to supporting emerging musicians, as well as to expanding our representation of classical music beyond the limits of European-influenced traditions.’’
An Innu artist from the Pessamit community and native of Saguenay, Élisabeth St-Gelais is dedicated to sharing her culture and heritage through her artistic journey.
A rising star on Canada’s classical music scene, she has earned numerous top distinctions, including First Prize and the Audience Choice Award at the Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage Competition (2023), the Prix d’Europe (2023), the Wirth Vocal Prize at McGill University (2022), and the Grand Prize (ages 19–30) at the Canada Canimex Music Competition (2022).
Élisabeth was also named to the CBC “30 under 30” list (2022) and selected as a Radio-Canada Classical Revelation for 2023–2024. In January 2025, she won the Washington District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and in summer 2024, she was among the 32 finalists at the Geneva International Music Competition (Voice category). Most recently, in December 2024, she received Third Prize from the Fondation Père Lindsay, which supports promising young artists in their international careers.
Active within Montreal’s musical community, Élisabeth also served as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Conseil Québécois de la Musique (2024–2025). She was also JMC’s artist-in-residence for the 2024-2025 season.
