Long-time friends of JM Canada, pianist Philip Chiu and cellist Cameron Crozman have invited the talented violinist Chloé Chabanole to join them on tour! With a natural synergy and communicative ease, anchored by a shared artistic vision, the artists have imagined an audacious program of virtuosity, nuance, and poise exploring the piano trio in all of its forms. Discover everything from the nobility and playfulness of Haydn to the dark and dramatic sounds of Brahms, as well as the colourful, energetic music of Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy.

BIOGRAPHY

Chloé Chabanole, violin
Native of Saskatchewan, Chloé has established a varied musical career. She plays regularly with the Orchestre Métropolitain, I Musici de Montréal, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and is a member of chamber groups collectif9 and Warhol Dervish. She also serves as concertmaster of the Orchestre de l’Agora under conductor Nicolas Ellis. Chloé studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, the Université de Montréal and the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. During these formative years, she took part in numerous international orchestral and chamber music festivals, including the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar at Stanford University, the Toronto Summer Music Festival, the Accademia Mahler in Bolzano, Italy, the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, the Rendez-vous musical de Laterrière and the Festival de Lanaudière.

Cameron Crozman, cello
A cellist “with a rich imagination and a keen mind” (Diapason), Cameron Crozman is recognized as one of Canada’s rising stars. Winner of the 2021 Virgnia Parker Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts, he is a Radio-Canada Classical Revelation artist 2019-2020 and regularly appears in recital and as a soloist with major orchestras in North America and Europe. An avid collaborator and chamber musician, Cameron regularly shares the stage with world-renowned artists including James Ehnes, Augustin Hadelich, André Laplante, and James Campbell. After studies with Paul Pulford in Canada, Cameron attended the Paris Conservatory in the class of Michel Strauss. He was also a laureate of Gautier Capuçon’s 2016–2017 Classe d’Excellence at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. His debut recording for ATMA Classique has known a critical and public acclaim. Cameron is the founder and artistic director of ClassicalValley—in the Okanagan Valley—and the Edeta Arts International Chamber Music Festival in Llíria in Spain.

Philip Chiu, piano
“A pianist painter who transforms each musical idea into a beautiful array of colours” (La Presse), Philip Chiu is acclaimed for his brilliant pianism, sensitive listening, and a stage presence that eschews the hermit-pianist image in favour of openness, authenticity, and connection with audiences. Philip concertizes extensively as a soloist and chamber musician and has performed recitals and chamber music concerts all across Canada, France, Japan and United States. Chamber music partners have included James Ehnes, Emmanuel Pahud, Regis Pasquier, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Bomsori Kim, Johannes Moser, and Raphael Wallfisch among others. Sought-after pianist, he is regularly invited to teach at numerous music academies and to accompany national and international competitions in Canada and the United States. Recipient of numerous scholarships, Philip is one of Canada’s most renowned pianists, with numerous recordings to his credit.
