Musical awakening workshops

Through the proposed themes, children will have the chance to familiarize themselves with voice, to be introduced to musical storytelling, or to discover the basics of rhythm! Over the course of the six sessions scheduled for each workshop, children will be given the opportunity to use small musical instruments, listen, learn about musical concepts, and even compose a work of music! In addition, each workshop is associated with a specific JMC concert. What better way to continue the adventure of discovery than by offering your musical apprentices a concert?

Enchant your Voice!

INTRODUCTION TO VOICE
Concept: Catherine Messier

Recommended concert: Annabelle Follows the Sound of Her Own Voice

In this workshop, children will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the voice, the way it works, and its role in different musical styles. Through various play activities, they will learn the basics of music theory and musical concepts
such as nuance, tempi, and registers.

  • Target audience: 3-5 years old or special version for 18 months-2 years

  • Time : 30 minutes (series of 6 workshops over a six-week period)

Rhythmic Trip Around the World!

INTRODUCTION TO RHYTHM
Concept: Catherine Messier

Recommended concert: The Great Rhythmobile Adventure

In this workshop, children discover the basics of rhythm, one of the fundamentals of music. Through various activities involving movement, children assimilate such concepts as tempo and different note values. They will also be introduced to
the wonderful world of percussion instruments through several hands-on activities.

Sing me a Story!

INTRODUCTION TO MUSICAL STORYTELLING
Concept: Catherine Messier

Recommended concert: Peter and the Wolf

This introductory workshop on musical storytelling allows children to nurture their creative sensibilities. They are asked to create their very own story, which they then set to music. While having fun, the children discover musical concepts that are of use to them in creating their musical tale. Finally, through listening activities, the children are asked to identify the various emotions conveyed by the music.
