Message from the Governor General of Canada

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada (JMC) Web site. The JMC are dedicated to sharing classical music and to helping develop the careers of young artists who aspire to excellence in a variety of musical roles, bringing together an impressive audience. The JMC play a major part in ensuring that their musicians are heard here in Canada and on the international scene.

All across the country, I have seen how important arts and culture are in the lives of young people. Whenever I meet with them, I see how much they want to assert who they are, exhibit their strengths and talents, and make a difference in their communities. And for many of them, making a concrete commitment to artistic creation allows them to express exactly how they belong in society.

The JMC develop much-needed spaces that promote growth and creation. These places—where anything goes and everything is possible—are adapted to the constantly evolving needs and interests of young musicians, singers and composers, who are given the opportunity to be heard and recognized, and who channel their energies and realize their aspirations as far as they want to take them.

I wish all those embarking on this thrilling adventure, and all those who support them, every possible success.
