A little history…
The building, designed by architect Harold Lea Fetherstonhaugh, was constructed in 1932. Known as the Laurier Clinic at the time, it was the Laurier neighbourhood’s main medical and dental clinic. The City of Montreal later renamed it the Siegler Clinic in honour of a local alderman, and bought the land behind the building on which to construct a swimming pool and gymnasium, both of which were never built.
In December 1984, JMC took up residence as a tenant in the building. On July 6, 1999, the City of Montreal transferred ownership of the building to JMC, which allowed the organization to undertake a major renovation project. The JMC Foundation contributed to the project by overseeing its administration and obtaining funding from the governments of Quebec and Canada. Architect Renée Daoust, of the firm Daoust, Lestage Inc., designed the interior. The City of Montreal has classified JMC House as having a significant architectural value.
