Ukrainian-born Serhiy Salov, 28, received his early musical training at the Special Music School of Donetsk studying piano, composition and improvisation. At the age of 11 he gave his debut as a soloist in Grieg's Piano Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. In 1994 he went to Germany to study at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, graduating in 1999. His teachers there were Tibor Szasz and Michel Beroff. Serhiy has been a prize winner on numerous occasions beginning in childhood. He won First Prize at the Grotrian - Steinweg Piano Competition in Braunschweig, Germany in 1995, First Prize at the Concours Musical de France in Paris in 1998, First Prize in the Beethoven Society of Europe Intercollegiate Piano Competition in 2000, First Prize in the 6th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy, First Prize in the Epinal International Piano Competition in France in 2001, First Prize at Dudley Piano Competition.in 2001, Third Prize in the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 2003 and First Prize in the Montreal International Piano Competition in 2004. At the Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition in 2001, he won Third Grand Prize as well as the Special Prize for best interpretation of the commissioned work. In 2006 he was a finalist in the Honens International Piano Competition. Serhiy Salov has completed postgraduate studies with Prof. Joan Havill at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He was awarded the Concert Recital Diploma (Premier Prix) of the Guildhall and a master’s degree in performance. He has given recitals in Germany, France, England, Italy, Belgium, Ukraine and Japan, and has performed with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Calgary Philharmonic, Orchestre symphonique de Québec and Berlin Symphony.
