Canadian soprano Jennifer Pyra is an energetic and inventive performer on both the operatic and concert stage. Originally from Saskatchewan, Jennifer Pyra is applauded for her crystal tone and lyrical interpretations of everything from early operatic works to 20th century art songs. After performing at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC as a regional finalist for the Metropolitan National Opera Council Auditions in 2008, Jennifer Pyra was awarded their Encouragement Award. Upon graduation from the University of Western Ontario, Jennifer was presented the Alfred and Maria Rose Award for highest standing in voice.
Some of Jennifer Pyra’s solo performances include Rose Maurrant in Street Scene, and Prima Sorella Cercatrice in Suor Angelica with UWOpera, and Vivaldi’s Gloria with Orchestra London under the baton of Timothy Vernon.
Jennifer Pyra recently graduated from the Franz-Schubert Institut, Austria where she studied with Edith Wiens, Elly Ameling, Helmut Deutsch, and Rudolph Jansen. Jennifer Pyra has also participated in the Queen of Puddings Training Program in Toronto where she worked intimately with John Hess and Tom Diamond.Currently a student of Marie Daveluy, Jennifer Pyra performed in the master class series with François le Roux and Michael McMahon at Centre d'arts Orford in August, 2010. Jennifer Pyra will enter the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal in September, 2010 to pursue a Masters Degree.
