Christopher Mayell is quickly making his mark as a rising star in the concert halls and opera houses across Canada.  As a proud member of the Calgary Opera Emerging Artist Ensemble (2007-2009), he performed the roles of Borsa in Rigoletto, Samuel in the Canadian premier of The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos (heard on CBC Radio’s Saturday Afternoon at the Opera). While in Calgary, he was also featured by the Spiritus Chamber Choir in a CBC Radio broadcast performance of Respighi’s Laudate per la Nativita del Signore.  

Christopher has recently appeared with Opera NUOVA in Edmonton (The Lives of Lesser Things), Opera on the Avalon in St. John’s (Albert Herring), Wish Opera (Don Giovanni), Tapestry New Opera Works (Get Stuffed!), and Concert Opera Group, these last three in Toronto, as well as Opera Lyra Ottawa. Concert engagements have taken him throughout Ontario to Stratford (Mozart’s Requiem), Sarnia (Beethoven’s Mass in C), Peterborough (Handel’s Messiah), and Kingston (Bach’s Magnificat).

Christopher received a BMus. from Queen’s University.  He holds an MMus. and an Artist’s Diploma from The University of Western Ontario where he studied with voice teacher Torin Chiles and worked closely with coach John Hess.
